I made changes to the hat to fit a 14" head.
My Version Of The Hat:
1 oz. Baby Sport Pompadour Yarn
(I used a varigated and a solid for brim)
also can use G hook and WW yarn.
Chain 4- join with a sl st to form a ring.
1.) ch 2- 15 dc into ring. sl st to join.
2.) ch 2 - 2 dc in each st around. sl st to join.
3.) ch 2, * 1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from *
around. sl st to join.
4-9.) ch 2, 1 dc in each st around. sl st to join.
row 10.) --- ch 2,front post dc around each st. sl st to join.
row 11.)---ch 2, turn and work in other direction .. 1 hdc in
each st around. sl st to join (may use contrasting color at this
time for brim)
row 12.)--- working in same direction as row 11, ch 2,1 hdc in
each st around, sl st to join.
do 1 row of sc (in place of row 13) for boys hat. or do row 13
for girls hat.
row 13.) --- (working in same direction as rows 11 & 12) ch 1,
sc in same sp, * skip 2 sts, put 5 dc in next st (shell made), sk 2
sts, 1 sc in next st, repeat from * around, ending with a sl st
into the first sc. (working in opposite direction for rows 11-13.
(gives it a nice look when folded up, so that you are looking at
right side stitches.) end off.
(another variation; on row 13, ch 3, sc in next st, * sk 1, ch 3,
sc in next st, repeat around . end off.) ....use contrasting color
*** fold up brim, row 10 will look like a ridge on the bottom.
this particular hat fits a 14" preemie head.
This is a fast and wonderful baby hat: you can make
dozens and dozens for the charities in no time at all,
and use up scrap yarns so nothing goes to waste!
